Blue Ridge Humane Society is committed to creating lifelong homes for every pet. BRHS cares for pets awaiting adoption at the Adoption Center and works to ensure the highest quality adoption counseling experience for potential adopters. At our Adoption Center, we assess behavior and treat conditions as necessary with all animals under our care. Prior to adoption, each animal is provided with all the appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, dewormed, and are spayed or neutered. In addition, each pet goes home with a 30-day free health insurance plan.
BRHS also provides owner support for BRHS adopters and community pet owners, including low-cost vaccine clinics, pet training classes, behavior consultations and adoption follow-ups. BRHS takes an active role in community outreach through providing animal and youth education programs and projects; coordinates community pet food assistance, emergency vet assistance, and the Spay Neuter Incentive Program (SNIP), which is a collaboration with Henderson County, the City of Hendersonville, and the Henderson County Animal Services Center.

Conserving Carolina's mission is to protect, restore, and inspire appreciation of the natural world.
Your support is powering some amazing conservation projects. With your help, Conserving Carolina is creating new parks, trails, and greenways. We’re protecting mountains, foothills, rivers, and farms—over 47,000 acres so far. We’re restoring woods, meadows, and wetlands. Where we work - We serve part of Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. In North Carolina, our region includes Polk, Henderson, and Transylvania Counties, and parts of Rutherford and other surrounding counties. In South Carolina, we serve the Landrum area, including parts of Greenville and Spartanburg Counties.

Latino Advocacy Coalition of Henderson County (El Centro) is an organization by and for the Latinx community. We advocate for equality in Henderson and surrounding counties. The purpose of El Centro is to cultivate the dawn of a new day by enriching relationships, empowering people, and promoting a just community for everyone. We create a more inclusive community for Latinxs by providing unique services, developing grassroots leaders, and working together to access community resources. El Centro seeks to keep building a welcoming and just space where everyone is treated with dignity, valued and respected.

Literacy Connection transform lives by cultivating literacy skills that promote economic and social success.
We serve native and non-native English speakers through Adult Basic Education and English Language Acquisition. Using a student-centered beyond basics approach, we teach our students within the context of their goal(s).
Goals include reaching self-sustaining employment, family literacy/school success, obtaining citizenship, and/or achieving post-secondary credentials including the GED.
Our services are delivered by more than 100 trained volunteer tutors, credentialed instructors, and a small, but highly effective, staff.
We serve nearly 350 learners annually, of whom, 96% reach one or more of their goals.

Smart Start Partnership for Children
MountainTrue is the oldest environmental non-profit in Western North Carolina. With offices in Hendersonville, Asheville, Boone, and Murphy, NC. We also service 2 counties in Georgia out of our western office. We work in 23 counties to champion resilient forests, clean waters and healthy communities in our region. MountainTrue engages in policy advocacy at all levels of government, local project advocacy, and on-the-ground environmental restoration projects. Primary program areas include public lands, water quality, clean energy, land use/transportation, and citizen engagement. MountainTrue houses the Creation Care Alliance of WNC, a network of congregations and people of faith working to preserve the environment, and the Asheville Design Center, a socially equitable community planning program for Asheville and surrounding counties. We are also home to Riverkeepers for the French Broad, Watauga, Green and Broad Rivers, who are the primary defenders and spokespeople for these waterways.

Smart Start Partnership for Children supports, educates, and advocates to build a strong foundation for young children in our community. We aim to provide the opportunities children need to be successful in school and in life. We fulfill our mission by providing programs in 3 major areas:
- Access to High Quality Care (Smart Start Scholarships, Smart Start Rewards, and Smart Start Quality Enhancement)
- Improve Early Literacy and Kindergarten Readiness (Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and Reach Out and Read)
- Parenting Support (Parents as Teachers)
You can TAKE ACTION by donating to Smart Start so we can continue to meet the needs of young children in Henderson County; inviting us to speak at your organization; volunteering for early literacy programs; or coordinating a children’s book drive for our annual book sale.
